Patriots Sign Second-Round Selection Wheatley

(Sports Network) - The New England Patriots signed second- round draft pick, cornerback Terrence Wheatley on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Wheatley, the Pats 62nd overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft, started 28 of 40 career games for the University of Colorado. Rounding out his four-year tenure for the Buffaloes, Wheatley was a first-team, All-Big 12 selection as a senior with five interceptions and 12 defended passes.

The 5-foot-9, 183-pounder finished his collegiate career with 156 tackles (124 solo) 1 1/2 sacks and 14 interceptions. His 14 interceptions tied him for the second highest total in Colorado history. Wheatley also gained a career 1,350 yards on kickoff returns while his two interception returns for touchdowns fell one shy of the school record.
