WEWS Captures Most Emmy Nominations, Key AP Awards

Members of the WEWS NewsChannel 5 team achieved top honors and nominations recently from the Associated Press and the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

WEWS earned four awards at the annual Ohio Associated Press Awards in the Large Market Television division held at a ceremony in Columbus June 7th. The judging was conducted by a group of professional journalists.

NewsChannel5's reporting and news coverage earned the following Associated Press Awards:

Best Documentary or Series /Second Place/Duane Pohlman and Special Projects Team/ “Catalytic Criminals”

Best Regularly Scheduled News /Second Place /Jill Manuel and Staff / “NewsChannel 5 at 11”

Best Continuing Coverage/ Second Place /Ron Regan and Special Projects Team /“$30 Home Protection”

Best Reporter /Second Place/Ron Regan

Another major victory for WEWS came from the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as WEWS earned more Emmy nominations than any other Cleveland television station. The station earned a total of twenty nominations at a ceremony held June 4th.

“I’m extremely proud of the entire NewsChannel 5 news team for their continued excellence in providing quality content to the viewers in our community,” said Jill Manuel, WEWS News Director.

The Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences will announce the winners at the 40th Annual Emmy Awards to be held in Cleveland in September.
