CLEVELAND -- WEWS Channel 5 has captured several major victories during the just completed May ratings period, including finishing No. 1 during the 11 p.m. news race. NewsChannel5 at 11 p.m. was first with women 25-54 (3.8 rating/11.3 share) and was the only late newscast to grow their audience from the previous ratings period. NewsChannel5 at Noon also claimed first place among women 25-54 (1.3 rating/9.7 share), beating out all other stations’ newscasts during this time period. “We’re very proud of the work we do each day and for each newscast,” said Jill Manuel, News Director of WEWS NewsChannel5. “It’s nice to see viewers recognizing us for the quality local news content WEWS provides every day.” Another major victory for WEWS was in primetime programming, where Channel 5 was number one with women 25-54 (5.1 rating/12.5 share). While all other stations’ programs declined in this area, only WEWS grew their audience between 8pm and 11pm. “WEWS takes pride in being a leader in Northeast Ohio for local news and quality programming,” said Vice President and General Manager Viki Regan of WEWS Channel 5. “This is a responsibility that everyone at WEWS-TV takes very seriously and works hard at everyday.” In daytime programming, WEWS also captured first place among women 25-54. The following programs all were number one in this demographic: The View, All My Children, One Life to Life, General Hospital, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
