Drivers urged to stay off freeway system

DETROIT - The Michigan State Police is advising everyone to avoid the Metro Detroit Freeway System because of intense flooding.

Our Scripps sister station 7 Action News has been fielding calls from many viewers in the Metro Detroit area who report flooding in their neighborhoods and basements.

If you are traveling to the Metro Detroit area, be advised to use extreme caution because most of the freeways, along with side roads across the area, are flooded.   

The list of some known problem areas on the road include, but are not limited to:

*Eastbound I-94 at Schaefer, right lane open only due to accident

*Northbound I-75 at I-696 closed due to an accident 

* Southbound Haggerty Road from Orchard Hill Place to 8 Mile Road is closed

*Southbound M-10 at M-8 is closed

*Northbound I-75 at M-8 is closed

*Both lanes of I-696 at Mound Road

*I-75 is closed both directions at Nevada St. (near 7 Mile Rd.)

*M-39 has flooded underpasses in the area of Fenkell

*I-94 has flooding in the area of Woodward (M1)

*The ramps from M-10 to M-8 are flooded.
