CLEVELAND - When meteorologist Mark Johnson was working in Akron at WAKR Channel 23, he did a live shot promoting a charity car wash.
Instead of standing outside the car wash previewing the Akron Children's Hospital fundraiser, Mark decided to make a splash by walking through the car wash.
It worked. The fundraiser was a success and it got Mark noticed by the management here at WEWS. He came to work at WEWS in 1993 and is now our chief meteorologist.
Mark would do the car wash walk-thorough three more times here at WEWS, each time in a similar set of circumstances promoting a charitable cause.
In our video, you'll see the second camera view of a two-camera live shot for the Morning Exchange, hence you won't hear much of what he is saying until he comes close to the camera.
The car wash in question is the Mister Magic Car Wash on Carnegie Avenue and Mark is smartly wearing a rain hood and goggles.
Mark didn't get any wax, but he was machine dried. The blow dryers must not have done the trick as Mark asked for a towel drying at the end.
