Two men dead from head trauma in unrelated homicides Friday night

A man in his 60s died after being struck in the back of the head during an assault on Friday night. 

Police responded to the 2900 block of East 116th Street around 1 a.m. for reports of an assault. The man was found lying on the sidewalk near the Dollar General. He was taken to University Hospitals where he was pronounced dead. 

Avonte Kennibrew, 18, was arrested that night by police in connection to the assault. 

Found dead

A man was found lying dead in the street around 8 a.m. Saturday morning. The man was found by Tower City security on near West 3rd Avenue on Central Avenue under the bridge. 

Police say the man had severe head trauma and believed he was jumped Friday night. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Police say the two deaths are not believed to be related.
