State Board of Education delays 2011-2012 local report card release until attendance data verified

COLUMBUS, Ohio - State report cards evaluating Ohio schools for their performance will be delayed until State Auditor Dave Yost finishes investigating alleged "irregularities in reporting student attendance," according to a state BOE representative.

The State BOE Monday unanimously agreed to postpone the release of the 2011-2012 local report cards until the investigation is complete.

"The report cards are intended to give an accurate picture of how well schools are doing," Acting Superintendent Michael Sawyers said. "They shouldn't be released with a cloud hanging over their reliability. "

The attendance issue will be revisited Sept. 10-11.

Meanwhile, the BOE is also searching for a new state superintendent.

The criteria for hiring a search firm will be developed Aug. 23.
