Ohio State's men's soccer coach said one of his players drowned while swimming with some of his teammates at a lake outside Columbus.

Fikayo Idowu died Friday night, according to Ohio State University.

Idowu, 19, was from Madison, Mississippi, and had been on the soccer team since 2014.

He was majoring in health and rehabilitation sciences and wanted to attend medical school. Idowu was also a two-time Ohio State scholar-athlete award winner.

Soccer coach John Bluem told The Columbus Dispatch that the drowning happened at Apple Valley Lake in Knox County, about 40 miles northeast of campus.

More than 100 people gathered Saturday night to remember Idowu at the university's soccer stadium. They formed his jersey number, 14, with lighted candles and released balloons, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
