CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Highway Patrol says an ambulance driver and patient have died in a crash in southern Ohio.
A dispatcher at the Chillicothe patrol post says the ambulance rear-ended a flatbed truck around 10 a.m. Wednesday.
WBNS-TV reports that the patient was bound to a wheelchair when the vehicle crashed into the truck carrying lumber. The rear of the truck smashed through the ambulance windshield.
The Chillicothe Gazette reports the crash was just north of a hospital, where the driver of the truck was taken. Life Ambulance, a private company based in Portsmouth, confirmed the vehicle involved was part of their fleet but declined any further immediate comment.
