Ohio State Highway Patrol arrests 749 for OVI over Fourth of July weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Monday that a total of 749 arrests were made for impaired driving over the Fourth oh July weekend.

Patrol officers also arrested 318 for drug-related charges during the weekend.

The arrests began Thursday, July 3 and ended Sunday, July 6. 

OSHP said 12 people were killed in a total of 11 accidents and four of the crashes were OVI related.

During the weekend, patrol officers made a nearly 57,000 traffic contacts and assisted more than 4,7000 drivers on the road.
