An Ohio college student accused of killing her newborn baby in April has been found mentally competent to stand trial.

The judge in Muskingum County made the ruling this week after a mental evaluation found former Muskingum University student Emile Weaver competent to participate in her trial. The evaluation also said she was not suffering from a severe mental defect at the time of the crime.

The 20-year-old Weaver has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors say Weaver put her newborn daughter in a plastic bag and left her to die. Authorities say the body was found April 22 in a garbage bag near a university-owned sorority house.

She's jailed with a $1 million bond. Her trial is scheduled for March.
