DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - A grand jury has decided not to issue homicide charges in the case of an Illinois truck driver who was fatally shot by a security guard at a southwest Ohio truck stop in December.
A statement from Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says a grand jury considered evidence and testimony from a dozen witnesses and declined to indict anyone in the death of 48-year-old Goran Sojic.
Heck says Sojic was speaking a foreign language when he charged an armed, uniformed guard behind a cash register area at the Dayton site and refused commands to stop. He says the guard feared for his life.
Sojic's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the guard, the security company and the truck stop company.
The defendants denied the family's allegations.
