New online database reveals Ohio public worker pay

The state treasurer's website now features a search engine for looking up the salaries of Ohio public employees.

Visitors to can plug in a first and last name to see what a state employee is making this year, or what mayors, teachers and other local government employees were paid as recently as 2010.

The searchable salary database was introduced on the website [ ] this week.

Republican Treasurer Josh Mandel says taxpayers work hard for their money and have a right to know where it's going.

His office says redesigning the website cost $58,000. A spokesman notes that Mandel's Democratic predecessor Kevin Boyce spent nearly $66,000 on making over the site during his time as treasurer.
