A new law in Ohio allows firefighters and paramedics to administer first aid to dogs and cats rescued from house fires, car accidents or other crisis situations.

It's one of the first of its kind in the country.

Animal advocates say they hope the law removes hesitation for first responders who might have concerns about tending to injured pets. Previously, only licensed veterinarians could treat animals, even in emergency situations.
