Lucas County dog warden employee accused of animal cruelty

TOLEDO, Ohio - He's supposed to care for animals, but a northern Ohio kennel worker is facing animal cruelty charges.

The Lucas County Dog Warden said she came across disturbing video that appears to show 28-year-old Aaron Nova picking up a dog by its throat and slamming it into a cage.

"The way the employee handled the animal, the way that the employee carried the animal, it's not an appropriate manner to handle an animal. And we don't tolerate that here," said dog warden Julie Lyle.

The dog, named Marble, was loose from his chain in the adoption area while the kennels were cleaned.

Nova's mother issued a statement on her son's behalf, saying he didn't know if the dog was friendly.

Nova is on paid administrative lead and the dog has been adopted.
