Hostage situation at Trumbull County Jail is over, no injuries reported

WARREN, Ohio - The hostage situation at the Trumbull County Jail has come to an end after nearly 5 hours, according to the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say negotiators were able to talk the inmates out of the hostage by promising a transfer to a new facility.

Three inmates held the corrections officer in one of the cell pods on the third floor. In a press conference, officials said the inmates involved used a homemade shank. They are unsure of where the shank came from at this time.

The officer was grabbed from behind by the inmates during a routine check on the third floor.

The inmates involved in the hostage were David Martin, Richard Ware and Kevin Johns. Martin is from the Cleveland area who is serving time for rape and kidnapping and faces a murder charge, WKBN reports.

The officer involved will be debriefed by a professional.

The hostage began around 3:15 p.m.

Multiple agencies assisted jail officials with the incident.

The jail is located in Warren, Ohio, about 15 miles northwest of Youngstown.
