A funeral home is donating its services for the funeral and visitation for a 5-year-old boy whose mother has been charged with murder in his beating death.

Alexander Stephens of Licking County died April 29 after authorities say he was beaten by his mother and a friend while camping near the Great Miami River. Police found the boy and his injured 6-year-old brother at a Middletown motel when they were called about a boy not breathing.

Middletown police and fire Chaplain Lamar Ferrell says visitation and a celebration of life service for Alexander will be held Thursday at Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home in Middletown. He says the local firefighters union and the Fraternal Order of Police will host a luncheon for the boy's family and first responders who cared for him.
