This is no stodgy lineup of suits and politicians (although there are a few here). Fortune's "World's 50 Greatest Leaders List" includes the likes of Chance the Rapper and Samantha Bee, as well as Angela Merkel and Jeff Bezos.
Describing the people selected, Fortune says:
"In business, government, philanthropy and the arts, and all over the globe, these men and women are transforming the world and inspiring others to do the same."
In that light, it makes a lot of sense that Cavaliers star LeBron James and Ohio Gov. John Kasich both rank fairly high.
LeBron James (Rank: 11)
Fortune cites his "pact with Northeast Ohio," to make a difference on the court and off. The profile includes a telling quote from an interview James gave Sports Illustrated: “I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, and I take that very seriously.” MORE
Gov. John Kasich (Rank 12)
The Ohio governor is known for standing on the principles he believes in. Although he didn't make it to the GOP presidential nomination, Fortune says, "as the leader of a politically consequential state, the Trump skeptic commands a key platform." MORE
