Parents are one step closer to being able to freeze their children's credit records to protect them from identity theft, after the Ohio Senate passed new legislation Tuesday, Senator Larry Obhof announced.

Previously, adults could freeze their own credit, but they could not do so on behalf of their children.

If House Bill 317 becomes law, Ohio will join 23 other states in adopting such credit protections for minor children, according to Sen Obhof (R-Medina).

The legislation now goes to Gov. John Kasich for his signature. If signed, it will become law.
