Voter registration deadline passes, as record numbers vote Tuesday in Cuyahoga County

CLEVELAND - More than 3,700 people voted early at the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections Tuesday, the final day to register for the November election. Many of the 3,748 voters also registered or changed their registration.  The number far surpassed the 2,400 early voters on registration deadline day four years ago.

"I think that there's been a lot of attention on this election particularly in the last two weeks," said Jane Platten, director of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. "There's been a lot of attention by campaigns and media on the deadline to register to vote.  And I think there's been also a  number of  high school students who've come in who've turned 18 this year."

Voters who cast their ballots Tuesday evening were entertained by the Shaw High School band performing across the street.  And if they came hungry, free burgers were on the grill, compliments of the local Obama campaign.

"We can't tell you who to vote for," said Terrance McClain as he worked the grill. "We know who we are supporting. We just want everyone to vote."
