COLUMBUS, Ohio - The chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party is among the winners in Tuesday's contests for the state Legislature.
According to unofficial results, Democrat Chris Redfern, of Port Clinton, easily defeated Republican Donald Janik, of Huron, for a House seat in northern Ohio.
Ohioans were picking all 99 House members, along with 18 of 33 state senators, this election.
It's a longshot for Democrats to take control of the state Senate, where the GOP holds a 23-10 advantage.
Republicans have a 59-40 edge in the House. But Democrats are trying to hang onto enough seats there to keep the GOP from having more legislative power.
Finance records from last month showed House Republicans had far outraised and outspent their Democratic counterparts heading into the campaign's final weeks.
