For years, pregnant women have been told that drinking alcohol is not an option, but now a new study disputes that.
A study just released in the British Medical Journal found that when moms consumed a moderate amount of alcohol, it had no adverse effect on her child's balance years later. That is a marker for brain development.
So what's a moderate amount? According to the study, it is three to seven drinks a week.
Despite the study, drinking alcohol while pregnant is not expected to be recommended in the United States.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says other studies have consistently shown even a little bit of alcohol is risky. Their advice is not to take any risks and stay away from drinking if you are pregnant.
