MONROE, Mich. - The U.S. Coast Guard says crews that were searching western Lake Erie for two missing Michigan boaters have recovered two bodies and authorities are awaiting autopsy results to confirm their identities.
The Coast Guard says 54-year-old Godfried McKinney of Southfield and 64-year-old Kendrick Covington of Detroit headed out from Monroe on Wednesday to go fishing in a 14-foot boat. They were due back that night and reported missing after they didn't return.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Detroit and a Coast Guard boat from Toledo, Ohio, have been involved in the search.
The Coast Guard says searchers recovered two bodies from the lake Thursday and says investigators are awaiting confirmation of their identities.
