Five-year-old Mansfield resident Elizabeth "Lizzy" Myers is headed to Rome to check Pope Francis off her "visual bucket list."
Her visit was put on hold following a delayed flight in Columbus Wednesday but her parent's determination for their daughter to see Pope Francis is still on course for next week, the Mansfield News Journal reports.
Steven and Christine Myers created a bucket list of amazing things for their daughter, Lizzy, to see before a rare genetic condition slowly steals her sight. It's a diagnosis they have decided not to share with her. Right now, the list has the Catholic family headed for the Eternal City, thanks to round-trip ticket donations from Turkish Airlines, whose general manager was touched by Lizzy's story last year, ABC reports.
Though Rome was her parent's idea, Lizzy is aware of Pope Francis. She knows he's "the tall man with the white hair and the tall white hat," Steven said. But she doesn't want to just see him; she wants a hug too, according to her dad, who thinks the outcome of that goal should be interesting, People Magazine reports.
