BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A California teen is being called a hero after he saved a girl from drowning at the beach.
Chris Lozano, 16, was forced to stop surfing near Ventura Pier in Ventura, California when the tide became rough. As he was getting out of the water, he noticed a head bobbing in the surf far from the shore.
Without a second thought, Lozano jumped back into the water. He was worried the waves would slam the person into the pylons for the pier.
Lozano reached Maya Harding, 11, just 10 feet from the pylons. He says his training as a Young Marine helped him fight the huge waves and make it back to shore.
