The family of 59-year-old Corrinna Charlton said they were unaware of her boyfriend’s extensive criminal background.

Lorain police arrested 57-year-old Anthony Wayne Davis just 36 hours after he allegedly shot and killed Charlton at her W. 7 Court apartment on Jan. 16.

According to police and Lorain County Court records, Davis served 5 years in prison for attempted murder and rape, but was released from jail in 2004.

Charlton family member Kyriece Brooks told newnet5.com the family would have warned her if they knew about Davis and his violent past.

"She was such a loving caring person," said Brooks. "I think a man with his criminal past should never have been let back out onto the streets."

According to police, Anthony Wayne Davis, 57, was taken into custody at 9 a.m. on Sunday in connection with the shooting death of his friend, 59-year-old Corrinna Charlton. He has been charged with murder.

Police, along with members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force and the Lorain SAT Team, were conducting surveillance in the 100 block of Hamilton Avenue in an attempt to locate Davis when he was seen exiting a nearby home on Sunday morning.

Police had been looking for Davis on Saturday and issued a warrant for murder for his arrest after authorities were called to 916 West 7th Court around 5:15 p.m. Saturday for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Charlton with apparent gunshot wounds.
