Westlake Police are on the hunt for slingshot vandals who have caused thousands in damage and are also shooting at cars and motorists.

Westlake Police Captain Guy Turner told News 5 the vandals likely used a high-powered slingshot to shoot out more than a dozen windows at a strip mall on Center Ridge Road, cause more than $8,000 in damage.

Turner explained the slingshot attackers also shot at vehicles and motorists on Detroit Road near the Columbia Road intersection.  One driver was hit in the ear.

Police have recovered a large marble at the strip mall that is more than one inch in diameter.

Turner said if the vandals are caught, they face some serious charges.

"You might be looking at some felonies," said Turner.

"Aggravated assault or vandalism.  This is not Dennis The Menace breaking Mr. Wilson's window next-door. These are serious offenses."

Turner said Westlake has a law on the books that basically bans the use of slingshots inside city limits.

So far police only have a vague description of the suspects and are asking anyone with information to contact the Westlake Police Department.
