New study finds chick flicks may help couples with their own love lives

They are called "Chick Flicks", those romantic comedies, and now a new study by the University of Rochester finds those movies may actually have a valuable role in a couple's relationship.

The study found that watching a romantic comedy or date movie with your significant other can actually strengthen your own relationship.

According to the New York Times, the study found couples who watched these types of movies together were less likely to get a divorce or separate. The researchers found that watching the movie together leads to introspection for each person and starts the conversation about their own relationship in a non-threatening way.

Researchers say watching other couples on the screen go through highs and lows can make it possible for you to realize and address your own issues.

The findings of the study are said to be preliminary.
