TAMPA - Officials are investigating after a man walked into a Longhorn Steakhouse restaurant in Tampa with gunshot wounds.
Witnesses say the incident happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Tampa Police, the victim was robbed by two armed suspects near the restaurant. The initial crime scene is believed to be behind the Howard Johnson Hotel.
A struggle ensued between the victim and the suspects and the victim was shot in the wrist. Police say because the 29-year-old victim put his arm up to shield his face, the bullet traveled through his wrist and into his cheek.
The victim took off running and entered the Longhorn restaurant, where he collapsed.
Witnesses say the car the suspects were traveling in was a grey four-door Maxima or Ultima. While driving away, witnesses say the men fired off four more rounds.
"We obviously had to check all the rooms to make sure that we did not have additional victims within the motel itself," said Lt. Mark Scott with the Tampa Police Department.
The victim was taken to the hospital and police say he is in guarded condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
