SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. - A Miami man who admitted to murdering his wife Thursday broke the news with a Facebook update.
He posted an image of the horrifying crime scene on his Facebook account, along with a message for his Facebook friends.
Derek Medina, now charged with first degree murder, wrote the following on his social media account:
"Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare," he wrote.
"Facebook people you will see me in the news… my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me. "
In his Facebook photo, his wife's body can be seen slumped backwards, with her knees on the floor and her arms covered in blood.
The photo was captioned, "RIP Jennifer Alfonso".
Medina, 31, went to the South Miami police station around noon and admitted to his crime.
According to the affidavit, he allegedly got into an argument with his 26-year-old wife around 10:00 a.m., when he grabbed a gun from the closet and pointed it at his wife.
His wife picked up a knife, and Medina said he took it away.
He said she began to hit him, and in turn, he shot her several times, killing her.
Police went to his townhome, where they found the victim's body.
Officials also found the couple's 10-year-old daughter unharmed.
Medina has an active YouTube account with over 100 videos and he wrote several e-books, including
How I Saved Someone's Life and Marriage and Family Problems Thru Communication.
The graphic photo and posts remained on Medina's page until 5 p.m.
A Facebook associate told the Associated Press they removed the content once they were notified of the posts.
Medina was first married to the victim in January 2010, divorced in February 2012, then remarried in April of 2012.
