Densuke watermelon sells for $3,500 at Japan auction

How much would you pay for a good watermelon? How about $3,500?

According to Japan’s national broadcaster, NHK, that's about how much a watermelon sold for at an auction Tuesday.

It was one of dozens of Densuke watermelons up for auction.

The watermelons are famous for their black skin and sweet flesh and typically fetch a high price.

They are grown on an island in northern Japan.
