CLEVELAND - When you received perfect attendance in grade school, the reward was usually a certificate or phone call home. For some United Airlines employees, the prize will be much loftier.
The airline will give 11 of its employees with perfect attendance a new Ford vehicle at an event at Chicago O'Hare International Airport Friday and there's a chance one of them could be in Cleveland.
United said the employees represent six work groups and are based in seven cities around the world. One of United Airlines' 10 hubs is located in Cleveland.
United said they randomly selected the 11 employees, who achieved perfect attendance during at least one of three six-month periods beginning July 2010, from thousands of eligible employees.
"Perfect attendance facilitates a work environment of dependability and trust, and enables us to provide our customers with consistent, reliable service," Donna Towle, vice president of Employee Relations at United, said in a news release.
The perfect attendance program has been in effect since 1996, with the airline awarding more than 180 new cars to employees.
