VERMILION, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious crash injuring three people.
The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Darrow Road, east of State Route 60 in Vermilion.
According to the Highway Patrol, Benjamin Mahar, 23 of Vermilion, was driving a 1997 Saturn SL1 two door passenger car eastbound on Darrow Road when he lost control after negotiating a curve. He slid off the right side of the road and struck two trees and a utility pole before coming to rest in a ditch.
Mahar was not wearing a seat belt, nor was front seat passenger Chad Parmer, 24 of Vermilion. Both Mahar and Parmer were ejected from the car and Life Flighted to Cleveland’s MetroHealth Medical Center.
The rear passenger, Sarak Garvey, 21 of Vermilion, was transported from the scene to Lorain Community Hospital with incapacitating injuries.
Alcohol and unsafe speeds are believed to be primary factors in this crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
Blood alcohol results will be determined during the subsequent investigation.
