What good is a getaway vehicle if it doesn't work? Two theft suspects in Wayne County found out the hard way over the weekend.
Alleged thieves David Booher, 50 of Doylestown, and Roland Pyle, 27 of Barberton, were arrested after their getaway minivan, a 2000 Chevy Venture, broke down a few miles away from the crime scene, according to Captain Doug Hunter.
Wayne County deputies were called to a home in the 7200 block of North Deerfield Avenue around 6:10 a.m. Sunday for a report of a break in.
Boohner and Pyle allegedly stole two rifles, a shotgun, a pellet gun and various tools from the home and then fled in the minivan.
Unfortunately for them, the van broke down on Back Massillon Road a short time later.
Acting on tips and a description of the vehicle, deputies spotted the broken down van and determined the two men were involved in the burglary.
They were arrested and charged with theft.
On Monday, deputies returned to the area on Back Massillon Road and found the stolen guns. Booher and Pyle hid the weapons under a tree, Hunter explained.
Booher has since been released from jail on bond. Pyle remains in custody for a parole violation related to a burglary case.
More charges are pending, Hunter said.
