Two teens were caught on dash cam while fleeing from police in a stolen car Thursday morning. Police said it all started when they walked away from a behavioral health center, and it ended with the boys crashing into an innocent driver.
According to Apple Creek police, the 15-year-old boys headed to a gas station at State Route 585 and Back Orrville Road after leaving the Village Network behavioral center in Wooster.
At the location, they stole a car that was left running while the owner, Andrea Dye, went into the gas station to get coffee.
"I was astounded," said Dye told News 5. "I couldn't believe it. I was in disbelief.
Dye hopes other learn from her mistake.
"That's a huge mistake everyone," she said after the fact. "Just to let you know, don't ever to that."
Apple Creek police Sgt. Matt Estacion spotted the stolen car and tried to initiate a traffic stop at East Main Street and Eyman Drive but the teens kept driving.
"I had that gut feeling that something bad possibly was going to happen," said Sgt. Estacion. "And it did, unfortunately."
Dash cam video captured the moment the stolen vehicle slammed into another car at State Route 250 and Carr Road.
Both teens and the driver of the other car were taken to Wooster Community Hospital for treatment. None of the injuries was life-threatening, police said.
The driver is expected to be charged with fleeing and eluding and aggravated vehicular assault. He's also expected to be cited for several traffic violations.
