Reann Murphy murder: Preliminary autopsy results determine strangulation as cause of death

SMITHVILLE, Ohio - Preliminary autopsy results have been released in the murder of 9-year-old Smithville girl Reann Murphy.

Wayne County Coroner Dr. Amy Joliff said the preliminary finding was that Murphy died as a result of strangulation. A news conference previously scheduled for Tuesday will no longer be held.

Murphy was reported missing by the 24-year-old suspect in her murder, Jerrod Metsker, Saturday.

Early Sunday morning, authorities found the girl’s body in a trash dumpster.

Metsker was arraigned on an aggravated murder charge on Monday morning. Bond was set at $1 million.
