AKRON, Ohio - A wrong-way driver on Route 8 in Akron hit multiple cars early Thursday morning.
According to Akron police the woman driver of a white truck was southbound in the northbound lanes on the Route 8 bridge between East Glenwood Avenue and Perkins Street just after midnight. The truck hit at least 3 vehicles, police said.
All the drivers of the cars that were hit by the truck were uninjured. The woman and her passenger, a small child, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Police do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Police were investigating whether the woman was involved in a spinout crash and headed the wrong way after that crash, or if she entered the highway in the wrong direction.
One of the drivers hit by the woman talked to NewsChannel5. "All I saw was headlights, I tried to swerve out of the way partially," Adam Hamad said, "My left front tire is gone my driver door is gone but I'm just happy I'm all right."
Police closed the highway for just over an hour to clean the debris and tow all the cars.
