Woman tells Akron police she didn't know boyfriend was cooking meth in house with two daughters

Two arrested, charged in meth bust

AKRON, Ohio - Two men were arrested after Akron police found two children in the same house with a methamphetamine lab.

Akron officers were called to a house on Adelaide Boulevard, off of Brittain Road in Goodyear Heights, at about 5 p.m. Wednesday for a report of suspicious activity.

Akron Lt. Rick Edwards said the one suspect, James Carson, ran off the porch when he saw police, but was caught a short time later. The owner of the home and her boyfriend allowed police to do a search. That's when they found a full working meth lab, Edwards said.

The homeowner did not know her boyfriend, 29-year-old Matthew Butler, was bringing friends over to cook meth, police said. She was not arrested.

Her two daughters, ages 7 and 8, were taken by Summit County family services.

Butler and Carson were charged with illegal assembly of chemicals, manufacturing meth and two counts of felony child endangering. Edwards said they will appear in Akron Municipal Court Thursday morning.
