Cuyahoga Falls mom Amanda Russell found dead in backyard

Woman stabbed in neck and torso

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio - A woman was stabbed to death in her Cuyahoga Falls backyard Thursday.

Amanda K. Russell, 40, was found in the backyard of her home in the 3000 block of 8th Street at around 3:30 p.m.

The Summit County Medical Examiner said the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the neck and torso.

Cuyahoga Falls police said Russell's daughter came home from school Thursday and saw her mother lying on the ground in the backyard.
Cuyahoga Falls Police Chief Jack Davis said Friday that at this point it appears that the crime "did not appear to be a random act. But we are looking into all leads."
Though Cleveland Metroparks police arrested a person Thursday with whom Russell had a previous relationship, that person has not been charged with this murder.
"There was an arrest made last night by the Cleveland Metroparks. They had made an arrest and that subject was a subject of a protection order involving our victim," said Davis. "We do not have any charges on that person or anybody else at this time."
"Our detectives arrived Thursday afternoon, working with BCI, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation," said Davis. "That evidence is currently being gone over thoroughly at BCI," said Davis. "There has been no arrest made at this time. We do have some people that we are looking at, obviously a person of interest, that we're trying to get together. And, just based on what evidence that we find see if we can connect somebody to this crime. There is not an arrest at this time."
Davis said Amanda Russell's 14-year-old daughter had walked home from school Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. Finding her mother lying in the back of the home on the ground, her daughter called 911. The 911 call released by police details the daughter's fear to go near her mother after seeing her from a distance, unresponsive, from inside the home.
"The child was living with her," said Davis. "She had walked home from school after the mother had failed to pick her up, and found the mother in the backyard."
