Springfield Township police arrest 48-year-old man after finding firearms on school property

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A Mogadore man was arrested Thursday after police found loaded handguns inside his vehicle on school property, according to the Springfield Township Police Department.

Springfield Township police arrested a 48-year-old Mogadore man for bringing two loaded handguns onto school property.

Craig Alan Jenkins was charged for the illegal conveyance of a weapon on school grounds, a felony of the fifth degree

Shortly before 9 a.m., police responded to Young Elementary School in Springfield Township for a report of domestic disturbance.

Police said the incident was determined to be over a child custody issue and took place while the child was dropped off at school.

Officers discovered two loaded handguns inside the man's vehicle. Police said there is no evidence that he had plans to bring the weapons into the school.

The man is currently being held in the Summit County Jail.
