COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - John Woofter, a retired Akron firefighter, wants the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks remembered, one name at a time.
Woofter has put up a memorial every year since 2009 on East Warner Road, near the Firestone Country Club, in Coventry Township.
This year, he is handing out index cards with the name of a 9/11 victim to everyone that stops by the memorial. All he asks is that they say a prayer for that person.
The eighth graders at St. Paul Elementary School in Akron made up the cards after Woofter contacted their principal and asked for help. Woofter graduated from St. Paul 57 years ago.
"The younger generation today, to me, this is their Pearl Harbor. They don't know anything, that tragedy in the last 25, 30 years of this magnitude," said Woofter. "What happened there needs to be kept fresh in the Americans' eyes."
