Police: 15-year-old student brings knives to Barberton High School, says he had plan to do harm

BARBERTON, Ohio - Police busted a 15-year-old Barberton High School student Tuesday who allegedly brought knives to school and planned to work with others to do harm.

School staff was notified at 8:30 a.m. that a student was in possession of a knife and the school's resource officer allegedly found two knives inside the student's backpack.

Police said the 15-year-old told investigating school administrators and police he had a plan to take over and do harm at the school at some point in the future. They said there was not, however, an imminent threat to students, staff or faculty Tuesday.

Further investigation revealed three other students had knowledge of the knives and had agreed to be part of his plan.

The 15-year-old student was charged with Illegal Conveyance of a Weapon on School Property, Inciting to Violence, Aggravated Riot, and Inducing Panic.

Three other students, ages 13, 16 and 18, were charged with Failure to Report a Crime, Complicity to Inciting Violence, and Aggravated Riot.

The juveniles were taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center and the adult student was booked into the Summit County Jail.

The school district said it will follow its student code of conduct in disciplining the students involved.
