BARBERTON, Ohio - Thursday morning was an interesting one out in the field for me and my photographer, Mike Vielhaber.
We arrived to 14th Street in Barberton early in the morning and prepared for our live shot. That's when a homeowner called out to us for help. She was so upset - we thought someone was hurt.
Turns out, her pet, Buddy, was in trouble. Buddy, a 65-pound tortoise, was stuck in his shed, surrounded by flood waters several inches high.
He wasn't moving much, but fortunately, he was just fine. Maybe a little frightened if anything. I guess turtles that size can't swim. They sink like big rocks. So, Mike and I stepped into action.
I tried to pick up Buddy first. But, he was too heavy. Mike and another neighbor picked him up, and walked through the flooded backyard and placed Buddy on a dry upstairs patio.
When we left, he was walking around, happy as could be!
Working in the news business can be very interesting. I think I will be telling this story for a while!!
