A total of four people have been charged in connection with the death of a teen at a Super 8 hotel in Green Wednesday.
In a press conference Friday, the Summit County Sheriff's Office described Andrew Frye's death as a "senseless tragedy"
Heather Frye, 31, Jessica Irons, 35, Brenda Frye and Donald Callahan have now been charged in connection with his death.
Authorities said each of them "had a hand" in obtaining and disseminating heroin to the teen before his death.
Andrew was found unresponsive, face down in a chair at the Super 8 hotel off Corporate Woods Pkwy Wednesday.
According to Barberton Municipal Court records, Heather Frye, Andrew's mother, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, child endangering and tampering with evidence.
On Friday, Tammy Smith, who had custody of Andrew since he was a baby, called for justice. Smith said she urged Andrew to stay away from his biological mother because of her past drug history, but the kept going back because he craved a relationships with her.
"He's not ever coming home. I feel broken inside from him being gone," Smith said. "He will always be missed. He will always be here in my heart. I'll never forget Andrew. He's my son," Smith said.
According to officials, Andrew was staying the night in the hotel with his mother and her friend, Jessica Irons.
A report from the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office revealed that Heather said all three of them used heroin that day.
Irons woke up to find the boy unconscious.
Investigators confirmed Friday that they found found drug paraphernalia, syringes and illicit drugs inside the room where the boy died.
According to the medical examiner, preliminary results show Andrew had both heroin and fentanyl in his system.
Irons, 35, is facing charges of tampering with evidence and possession of drugs. Both Irons and Frye were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force Friday morning.
Brenda Frye, the boy's grandmother, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, corruption and trafficking in drugs. According to the medical examiner's report, the heroin might have been purchased by Brenda.
The sheriff's office conducted a search warrant in Akron Friday, which also led to the arrest of Brenda's friend, Donald Callahan. Officials say Callahan lived with Brenda.
Andrew was enrolled in the Akron Public School District as an online student.
Before that, he was a student at Green High School.
Other relatives who cared for the teen have established a fund at FirstMerit Bank in Andrew Frye's name. Donations can be made at any branch.
