Knight grant backs Cleveland-Akron festival link

AKRON, Ohio - A foundation with ties to northeast Ohio has awarded a $75,000 grant to back a Cleveland-Akron film festival collaboration.

The grant by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation will underwrite a day of Cleveland International Film Festival programming in Akron next March.

The project will include a "mini-festival" for high school students. Featured films will be tied to school work.

The Knight foundation backs programs in communities where the Knight brothers once owned newspapers, including Akron.

The film festival grant was among 14 totaling $750,000 announced by the foundation.
