AKRON, Ohio - An Akron handyman pleaded guilty to robbing two elderly people in two separate incidents.
Daniel Roy Spiegel pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of robbery on Tuesday. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
In February, Spiegel went to the house of a 92-year-old woman and demanded money from a previous job, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said. When the women refused and told him to leave, the 41-year-old forced his way into the house and knocked down the victim. He took money from her wallet and fled, prosecutors said.
While investigating that case, Akron police discovered that Spiegel had robbed a 97-year-old man in August. Prosecutors said DNA from the victim's jacket, where his wallet had been, matched Spiegel's.
That victim identified Spiegel as the neighborhood handyman, prosecutors said.
