AKRON, Ohio - An Akron doctor was found not guilty Friday of sexually assaulting 10 patients.
Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh said that a jury found Dr. James Bressi, 60, of Hudson innocent. He was convicted of one count of Sexual Imposition involving one of the victims.
“Based on the evidence presented in court, we are shocked at the verdict in this case. Our concern right now is for the numerous victims who came forward, and we commend them for their courage in doing so. We will continue to aggressively prosecute individuals who commit sexual assaults in this community, regardless of their profession or status in society,” said Walsh.
Bressi was an osteopathic doctor who specialized in pain management at Summa Pain Specialists in Stow.
Over 100 women came forward describing inappropriate sexual conduct by Bressi during pain management treatments from 2010-2013. Eleven victims testified against him at his trial.
During treatments, Bressi was accused of rubbing his genitalia on the victims or touching them inappropriately. Two women claimed digital penetration.
Bressi faces a sentence of up to 60 days in jail. He will also be required to register as a Tier I Sexual Offender every year for the next 15 years.
