A Coventry Township day care teacher is out of a job and facing child endangering charges after she allegedly dragged one child by the ankle and taped the mouth of another.
The Summit County Sheriff's Office was contacted about the alleged abuse on April 12 when management at Little Steps Big Dreams Academy on E. Waterloo Road called to report misconduct by a teacher.
Management indicated that the teacher had been fired.
According to officials, an investigation by the sheriff's office confirmed the the allegations against the teacher, identified as 22-year-old Kiara Davis.
All of the alleged misconduct occurred between April 8 and April 11 during nap time. Authorities said all the victims are 4 years old.
One boy was dragged by his ankle and another boy held down on a mat, according to the sheriff's office. The third victim, a girl, had her mouth taped shut.
Stephanie Akhdar, the mother of the girl, told newsnet5.com she was furious when she got the a call from the preschool informing her of what happened.
"That's all they told me was she was put tape on my child's mouth because she wouldn't stop talking," Akhdar said. "I don't remember half the things I said, but it wasn't pleasant."
Inspector Bill Holland said two of three incidents were captured by the school's surveillance system. That video has not been released at the request of the Barberton city prosecutor.
Davis was arrested and charged with three counts of misdemeanor child endangering. She's set to appear in Barberton Municipal Court on May 2.
Investigators said Davis admitted to the abuse, but said she didn't intend to cause harm. According to a police report, she said she was "frustrated and lost control."
Holland said Davis is a student at the University of Akron.
