Cupcake Camp Akron raised $2,300 on Saturday for Boy Scout Troop 334

GREEN, Ohio - Cupcake Camp Akron raised $2,300 on Saturday for Boy Scout Troop 334 Queen of Heaven Parish in Green. This marked the second annual Cupcake Camp Akron.

Nearly 400 people visited the event to sample a cupcake or two for free. Dozens of bakers put their cupcakes to the taste test.

Marty Laconte is the founder of the local event. "I went to a cupcake camp down in Charleston four years ago and fell in love with the concept and decided we needed one here in Akron," said Laconte.

Donations were accepted at the door and Boy Scouts helped ensure the festivities ran smoothly. "We help bakers, it's a great experiences to meet all the bakers and judges," said Danny Dorazio, a boy scout.

I was honored to be one of the three judges today. The winners in the event are  Dana Kocsis, Best Tasting Amateur, with Almond Apple Pie. Kerri Gleisinger, Best Tasting Professional, with Banana Split.  Gleisinger  also had the Professional Best Decorated with the Butterfly in the tea cup. The Kolesar family were also winners with Mary Pat winning Most Unique Ingredient Amateur with her Unbeetable Salty-Sweet. Sarah Kolesar won the Best Decorated Amateur with Under the Sea.  Rachel Bruce won the Professional Most Unique Ingredient with Sweet Potato Pie cupcakes.
