BATH TOWNSHIP, Ohio - A Kent woman is alive after her car crashed into Yellow Creek in Bath Township at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
The 42-year-old was in the water under the Yellow Creek Bridge for about an hour before she was able to get out of the window and crawl partway up the embankment, the Bath Police Department said.
That's when a passerby spotted her and called 911.
"She was soaking wet," said Ken Hedges of Hudson, who was on his way to work when he stopped to help.
"I ran across the street to see what was going on with the car and make sure there wasn't anybody else in the car. About that time I ran back across the street and another guy slowed down. And I waved him down so we got her into the car with the heat turned on."
Police said the woman was taken to Akron City Hospital. Hospital officials said was in satisfactory condition, then release later Thursday night.
Officers closed the road for four hours so that the car could be removed from the water.
"The only thing I can figure is the Lord put me in the right place at the right time," Hedges said.
